YOUTH GROUP

The Blue Star Youth Group continues to be very active. Every month the group meets. There is an average attendance of about seventeen to twenty youths. Workshops held on a monthly basis are interactive and 'real' and are on a wide array of topics such as Team Building, Peer Pressure, Coping Skills, Goal Setting and Spiritual Development.

Speakers we have had included fourtime Olympic Track Athlete Ato Boldon, Columnist for the Daily Express B.C. Peries, Life Management Consultant Pearl Gonzales and of course our very own Sri Vasudeva.

We concluded our Annual Youth Camp which was held during the period Monday 30th July to Friday 3rd August 2007 (CLICK HERE for Youth Camp Update). Truly a fantastic retreat, it was well attended and the topics and presenters were well received by all present because of the interactive and fun approach.

With love and best wishes,

Youth Development

Aims of Blue Star Youth Camp:

* To provide guidance and support in developing competencies that will enable them to grow and become healthy, responsible and caring youths and adult
*To provide young people with an enriched learning environment
*To nurture their social skills and values
*To prepare them for lifelong learning

This is done with a primarily non-academic focus through youth camps held during the vacation periods from regular school times. The Blue Star Youth group also meets once per month to plan and participate in programs that will develop their skills.

The activities engage young people's talents, skills, and interest, building on their strengths and involving them in planning and decision-making. They are encouraged to see that "learning" is a reason to be involved, whether in sports, clubs, arts, or community service, and are provided opportunities to connect with adult and peer mentors. This program is very much care-centred in providing a family-like environment where youth can feel safe and build trusting relationships.
