Realize Your Full Potential as a Spiritual Being
Every day we are challenged by the world. We are not only affected by disease from within but with challenging situations from the outside. It is important to be protected. Protection is such an important thing. Building a fence around your home is one thing but it does not necessarily mean you are protected. Driving your car with the doors locked may not ensure that you are protected. Driving along the correct lane on the highway may seem to be safe but you may never know of the driver on the other side. You may stop at a traffic light and you feel very safe but you never know if anyone is going to break the traffic light. Though you may do everything right, it does not necessarily mean you are safe. That is the unpredictability of our world.
Today, natural disasters also take their course and endanger our lives. An earthquake can appear from nowhere or lighting may strike at any time. The need to be really safe is very important in our lives. How to live in a space where we can feel safe, whether we are challenged from inside or outside?
In religious terminology it is said that we should walk with God. Or we can rephrase that to say that we can walk in the light of the Higher Self. How many of us really walk in the light of our Higher Self? How many of us really walk with God? How many of us really do it in every moment?
There are many people who come to me and they make a division between spiritual life and worldly life. I have not been able to make a division. I have worked in a normal world for many years, but I have always seen it as deeply spiritual. I interact with people every day and I see every interaction as being highly spiritual. I have not yet been able to see the difference between the secular world and the spiritual world; I see all as spiritual. Because I have learned to centre myself in that spiritual space, I feel protected no matter where I am. No matter where I am, I feel carried by a higher power. For me, that is real security. If I enter my car, I know I am driving with the Divine. If I am driving along the lane on the highway, I am aware that I am driving with the Divine.
That ability to be aware of the Divine or God in every moment is what we can all have. If we don’t strive for that, then we will be living in a jungle of wild thoughts and emotions. If you observe your lives every day and see how many thoughts flow through your mind and how many of the thoughts and emotions you get carried away with you will see how much of a slave you are to all kinds of wild thoughts and emotions.
It is very important to live a life of self-control, self-mastery, and self-centredness; not in the way of selfishness but being centred in a higher self inside. That is what we do here [at the Blue Star Centre] when we come. That is the value of being here; that we continuously train ourselves to remain in that awareness that ‘I live in a source of divine power.’ When you really live in that space, your entire being become energised by it - physical, mental, emotional. We should not think that this is for those saintly and religious people; the moment you can understand it, the moment you can understand what I am saying, the moment it makes sense to you, it is for you. Once you recognise something, it is your knowledge, your opportunity.
I am inviting you to divine togetherness, of enjoying the sacred space inside, of learning to tap into that source of power you have and learning to believe in it and learning to bring it into your conscious field of existence. Your body thrives in a field of loving thoughts.
The real purpose of life beyond the goals you created for yourself is to realize your full potential as a spiritual being in this human experience. That is the goal. That is why God, the Divine or the Universe puts you through these tests that you have; it is challenging you to bring out the best that is within you.
Make Meditation an Important Activity in your Daily Lives
Meditation is an extremely important activity - Learning how to sit in silence, how to observe your thoughts, how to concentrate on the thought you want to and how to transform your mental and emotional space as well as your physical space. This is what we need to produce in our homes; this is what we need to produce in our body. The energy of your body becomes different and the cells of your body become energised by this activity. In a truly civilised society, this is an important moment; the time we take to be in that sacred space. Every child should learn this. This is a daily activity; in the same way that you eat and drink water to refresh yourself and in the same way you wash your body every day, it is the same way you need to wash your mind and hold your mind in that sacred space.
Don’t let this just be an activity that you do when you come to satsang but try to do this every day. When you get up in the morning after cleaning the body, just sit for 10 or 15 minutes in meditation and you will see how it influences your entire day. If you can, before you go to bed, release your stresses of your day with meditation and you will see how it makes a big difference. You can look at how you feel now. Make meditation an important activity.
