Spiritual Teachers - Sadgurus
How important these teachers are in our lives. You can do a lot of penance and read a lot of books; you can do a lot of fasting and praying and still find it very difficult to touch that happiness and love inside of you. I have known this because I did this. It is remarkable, just the touch of the Sadguru what it can do for you. I cannot sing the praises of such beings enough.
I could not imagine that the presence of another human being could have been so powerful, that the look of a human being could be so penetrating and electrifying or that the touch, voice or attention of such a being could be so powerful until I experienced it. I could say to anyone and everyone that if you want to become more spiritually aware, if you want to become more spiritually enlightened, then it is not going to happen by books and ordinary penance. You need to find the teacher. I wish we could have more teachers in the world, true spiritual beings. I wish that we could have more deserving people because it is not only the teacher; it is the readiness of the student. When you have the two, the ready student and the powerful teacher, you have the recipe for great spiritual awaking and enlightenment. The presence of the teacher is magical.
The spiritual relationship between the teacher and the student is such a powerful relationship; it is a relationship that crosses lifetimes. It is a relationship of such love, such caring and such unity that I believe that there cannot be any more powerful relationship on this earth than the relationship between true teacher and the true student, because it takes you back home to that place where you truly belong.
We do not belong to this world; we never did and we never will. This world is only a place where we have come for a time. We have come here to learn and to grow, not to enjoy. What we can enjoy is the learning and the growing. We have not come just for the sake of pure pleasure, the pleasure of the world. We have come here to learn and to grow. That is why there are many situations we have in daily lives that force us to grow. Sometimes on meeting the true teacher the troubles begin because then we are forced to grow - the growth may be accelerated. You find you become more aware of your anger, your negative thoughts; you begin to feel more unworthy because you are coming face to face with the light. If you follow the teachings and hold on to the relationship, a lot of wonderful things will happen. I cannot imagine a more powerful relationship. Today, I live in the fullness of that and I am so incredibly happy. It does not matter what the condition is outside but I know for sure in my inner world, that I am centred in that place where I always wanted to be; that place of complete happiness.
You are a Spiritual Being
How many of you sit here in the room and think, ‘I am not just a human being. I am tired today or my mind is restless or I am not feeling so good.’ You can change that in a moment because you are different, you are a spiritual being. If you tell yourself, ‘I am the love, I am powerful, I am love, I am peace, my spirit is not of this world, my spirit is beyond this world, I am loving, I am peace, I am spirit, I am immortal in my inner world.’ You tell yourself this and you begin to feel different because you are centring yourself in your spiritual being. At the end of satsang that is how you should feel. If you were involved in the satsang, you feel you were transported in an inner world where the mind became so peaceful and where you feel so happy inside of you. That is your spiritual being. Chanting has the power to transport you into that place.
