Feeling the Presence of Divinity
I enjoy every moment of my life inspiring people and bringing them into the light. It cannot be any more joyful for me than that. Your happiness becomes my happiness.
My great joy in living is being able to experience that sacred space inside, otherwise there is no joy in living. It is a space of patience, tolerance, forgiveness, and love; that is what the space has. If you find your consciousness is limited, know that Satsang is a place where we can experience that freedom inside, that which is unlimited inside of us. That is what ‘Sat’ means, pure existence, pure being and ‘sang’ means the gathering, the gathering that is based on truth, the gathering that is based on the essence of being and the gathering that is based on eternal principles.
As we journey through our satsang I want you to become more aware of what you feel. As you sit, sing, listen and as you feel the space of silence, be aware of what is happening inside of you; be aware of that inner space I speak about and be aware of the wonderful qualities that arise inside of you in a very natural way as you sit and open your mind.
When you come and sing, the company tends to take you to a place where worries are forgotten and beautiful energies are awakened within you and the space changes. The challenge we have is that we should spend every moment like we do in satsang. When you are centred in that space, then every moment will be like that. That is the promise that life has for us.
You did not come in the world to go through pain; you came to experience something deeper inside to a space that is beyond suffering. This physical world is not the world of perfection but where you come from, perfection lies there. We say that perfection lies in the spirit within us. Perfection lies in our inner being.
As a young person, my dream was everything ideal in life but as I grew up I realised that things cannot be ideal in this world. No matter how much you dream of the perfect things it just cannot be. Then I learned that there is a place inside that is ideal. And when you are in that place that is ideal, it is then that you can appreciate the world for what it is. Don’t expect that everything in this world is going to be nice, like we say ‘a bed of roses.’ One day it may be good and at the next day it would not be good. One day someone may praise you, the next day they will kick you. That is the world for you. One day you may be elected prime minister, the next day you may be a commoner. Where you can always feel like royalty, where you are always feel great and dignified, is a place inside.
Thank God we don’t need an airplane to go there, because these days we have severe restriction on travelling! There is no restriction on going to the inner space. The only thing is you cannot carry any baggage.
Early in the week I went to a wake of a 32 year-old man who died of throat cancer… The family has been with me, so they understand the teachings. When I went and asked them how they felt, they said, ‘We understand Guruji.’ They all looked centred and stable handling the situation very well and they understood that he had to go. They said that he continued to joke with them even to the end; it was fun being with him. Some hours before he passed away, he was saying ‘I am going home’ and his family was telling him they had to pack his bags. He said, ‘Where I am going, I don’t need any bags.’ He said, 'If you see this place, you would not want to come back.’ It was not long after that that he left. That just shows that this world is not the perfect world but there is a place inside that is perfect.
We may not believe this because we are so grounded in this world, but those who have had a chance to see the other place say that you would not want to come back. In meditation and in satsang, you have a chance to visit that place while still in the body. When you go into that space, you feel so complete and fulfilled. The greatest joy is to live in that space while living in this world that you can live in two places at the same time. This is what enlightenment is, living in that inner space even whilst you live in the world; then you are no longer afraid to die.”
Expansion in Consciousness
I have been telling people… to have a greater appreciation for life that they need to have an expanded consciousness. If the consciousness is in limitation, no matter how much you scold a person or how much you try to get them to be how you want them to be, there is no way that they could do it because their consciousness is limited.
If you can do something to lift or shift their consciousness, so they can become more aware and able to understand more then you will see the change that you want. Sometimes we want people to change but we do not want to appreciate or understand that their consciousness needs to shift first. People act according to their awareness. So, when we see people acting in ignorance and we say that they should know better, of course they should know better, but how are they going to know better if they are not aware?
If your child does not have a mathematical brain and you want the child to become a math teacher or expert, how is it going to happen? Or if they don’t have a musical brain and you want them to play music, how is it going to happen? Unless their consciousness is open it will never happen. Even when you cannot understand something perfectly, you cannot condemn yourself but you have to pray for more understanding and grace. That is why we chant the Gayatri Mantra, please open our minds, open our intellect; illumine our minds.
When we chant, we are able to enter the inner spaces…that world of perfection, that ideal world - the world that Jesus spoke about, the world where all the great masters spoke about.
Journeying into the Light
Jesus said, ‘The kingdom of heaven lies within you.’ As you chant, you go deeper within yourself. It is one way which you can heighten and transform the consciousness by going deeper in your own being. The great joy is chanting the mantras with those who live in the light; those who live in the power.
