Our educational system does not fulfil its full potential. Think of it carefully: in our education system we do not learn about ourselves. If you have a PHD, it does not mean too much, you can still be a person with a lot of worry, emotional garbage, having a lack of self-esteem, unable to control your mind and unable to control your emotions. With all the education in the world, we still destroy innocent lives in a barbaric way. It leaves a lot to be desired. It leaves a lot to be desired.

Inner power comes from the right kind of education, awareness and self-identity. True inner power comes from there. We are not just a physical being but we are much more than that.  

At an early age of 20, I wanted to understand who I am. Thoughts like: ‘I still feel ignorant of who I am, where does happiness comes from? Where does that God exist? How can I talk to that God people talk about? Why was I created to die? Why was I created to live in a body so fragile and ea sy to die? Why do we have to go through sorrow? Why are we not beings of happiness?

I had these questions that needed to be answered. With these questions, I began to search. Is there more to life? At that time, I was happy with my education but it was not making me happy and I started my journey. I read lots of books. I was mostly interested in books about spirituality and mysticism because that gave me possibilities.

I read so much that my head would hurt. Books do not make people happy, books do not make people enlightened and books do not give you truth. The best that they can is to awaken something in you. I wanted more. I wanted more.

Different Teachers in the World
I continued my search. There was a turning point when I read a book which said ‘No religion, no philosophy, no ritual can take you to enlightenment.’ This was a most fascinating thing for me and a line that stayed on my mind. It said that if you meet another being who lives in true happiness, just by his presence or by contact this person will touch you in a way that no book could.

I wanted to meet somebody like that, who is enlightened. I wanted to become like them so my desire to meet somebody like that grew. I didn’t want anything less.

Journey to India  
In my heart I thought: ‘This journey is important for me.’ People thought I was foolish but it turned out to be the most fascinating journey at the age of 21. I came all the way from Trinidad and travelled to India which was so far away. If truth was anywhere in this world, I would have gone there.
 
During my first journey, I eventually got led to a place where I began to have experiences, awakenings. That experience was the beginning of change. I met people at a place that touched me very deeply and I started an inner journey to my inner power. I did not know that it would be possible for me.  

Kundalini Experiences
I started to feel an energy awakened in me. I felt that we are not just physical beings but we are beings of energy. I knew because I got some energy experiences.

For the people who have never heard of ‘Kundalini’ before. Kundalini is a subtle energy system inside of us which you can’t see. This system speaks of seven centres of energy. One on top of the head, in the brain; One between the eyebrows, they call it the third eye; One at the throat; One at the heart; One at the navel; One at the sexual/sacral area and one at the base of the spine.

The more attention I gave, the more devoted I was to it. I became aware that we are beings of incredible energy and I began to feel that.

Journey of Three Years
Then a journey of three years started in which I visited India twice. I realized that the truth is not in India. I learned the art of meditation. Meditation is not just sitting down, closing your eyes and being still. It is about a moment, experience. If you begin to feel happiness in your meditation wouldn’t that happiness overflow in your activities?

Practise of spirituality extended itself into any activity I did. I became aware of every thought in my mind. I did not learn from being in an Ashram, following somebody in dependence. I learned all about going in your own being to that inner power, your own inner power.

A true teacher will lead you to that power of your Self, into your own space without anything in return.  
 
After spending four months in India, I went back to my home country with a different power. I learned how to work with this source within me and it was an amazing journey.

The truth is within you, you will not get it from a book. You can’t buy it off a teacher, you can’t beg from it. You have to work for it. The Universe is like playing the game ‘hide and seek’ and it challenges you to find it, the moment you search.

Seek and you shall find. Knock and it will be opened. If you are really sincere in knowing who you are, if you are really sincere about being happy, this is available to you. The Universe is going to respond. It will send you the right people, it will send you the right books and it will send you the right teachers. If you do not get the right teachers, you have to question yourself: Am I worthy of this meeting?

When I returned to Trinidad, I began to research Kundalini. Now I had a personal experience with it and realized that it is not a myth.

If you have read about the seven centers (Kundalini), it is true. These exist within you and influence everything in your life.  If your third eye is not (fully) open, that is the reason why you cannot control your mind.

Inner Power

I felt connected to all of life. I felt the saying from the Bible ‘In him we live, move and have our being'.

You are a great being. You have the power of the Universe within you. You have the power to manage emotions. You do! If only you can tap into it. You can create images and re-create them again and again. You are not a limited mind, you are more than that. You are that, that contains all for these. Don’t define yourself by your fear, by your limitations. I am the master of my mind, my destiny, my emotions. I work with the Universe and co-create my future. Now, the journey to this place requires a desire. You need to visit that place. That place is not a property of anyone, it belongs to everyone. You are worthy of sitting in that place of power. You can change the future. The future is in your hands. You can’t change the past.

If you are really sincere, the Universe is going to respond to you by sending you people to grow. Sometimes they send you pain but that is for growth. When you do not meet the right people, think ‘Am I really worthy of receiving them?’  

If you are in your real power, you are sitting in the royal chambers of life. Seek to know yourself!  

Do you see now where real power lies? In your search for true power, you need to go within. Today I engaged myself in humanitarian work. My dream is to create an educational system where people learn to treat the body well. We go to schools and gain diplomas but we remain the same. We need schools of empowerment that guide us to be different human beings. That is one of my dreams.

You can learn to manage your emotions; you can learn to manage your thoughts. I have lived this experience. It is a great joy to talk about it. My life is your life, my life is our life. The journey to freedom and happiness is our journey.
