My
Dear Ones,
In exploring the inner world and seeking to experience the
depth of our consciousness the technique of witnessing is
a very powerful and important one. It may seem simple but
it needs to be understood if we are to achieve the full results
of the practice.
Witnessing is that state of being where we are aware of all
that is happening within and around us. It is a holistic state
of awareness. It means that in every experience we have of
our being and world we are aware of it as it is happening.
We are in full awareness of the moment. This means that we
are aware of thoughts, feelings, intentions and physical sensations
as they arise, stay and change. In this process we are not
caught in any one quality that we lose awareness of the others.
This may seem a daunting task at first as we have so many
aspects of our being and world to be aware of. But in my experience,
sincere and dedicated practice can bring the shift or expansion
in awareness where we see more in every moment.
As we begin to experience this state in a deeper way, we experience
an identity beyond thoughts, feelings and physical being.
We become aware that we are more that just body and mind.
We feel centred in a powerful space within where we see thoughts
and feelings as qualities we can manage. We begin to feel
and identify with the great power of this space. We touch
a deeper identity - our essence or spiritual being. It is
a space where boundaries shift and eventually disappear and
we feel connected to an endless source of love, peace and
wisdom. This is a transforming experience. There is an expansion
in consciousness and a greater self-identity emerges.
A simple way to begin this practice is to observe the breath
during sitting meditation. Observe every movement of the breath
as it enters the body and leaves. Let the breath flow in a
natural and comfortable rhythm. Try to keep a silent mind
as you observe the breath and give attention to the peace
that emerges as thoughts fade away. Stay in the present moment
as you breathe so that each breath feels as though you are
taking it for the first time.
As you become stabilized in witnessing the breath extend your
awareness to your emotional being and the body as it relaxes.
Strive to keep a state of balance or harmony. Keep a loving
and compassionate emotional state. As you practice holding
this state in your sitting meditation it will become easier
to achieve and keep each time you sit. This journey can become
very exciting when you begin to achieve some results from
the practice. This will give you motivation to continue.
For your sitting meditation you need a peaceful environment
so as to avoid distractions. If you have company to sit with,
it makes the journey easier especially if they are established
in the practice. As your meditation stabilizes, your inner
state of peace and harmony will naturally extend into your
daily activities enhancing your state of well-being and performance.
This is a very powerful practice that is worth every effort
to learn and use. Begin the practice today!
In loving service,
Vasudeva
