My
Dear Ones,
As we aspire for happiness and fulfilment in the human experience
we need to remember that we are not just physical beings but
much more. There are other levels to our being that need attention
as we seek to grow and develop. We are mental, emotional and
spiritual beings with needs at every level that are important.
We may have a healthy body but doesn't that mean that we are
happy? Our minds may be busy with constant worry. We may fight
with undesirable thoughts, trying to control them without
success. Though the body may be physically healthy the continuously
stressful mind with fluctuating and uncontrollable thoughts
may eventually lead to misery and ill health. Who wants to
live with a mind like this?
So mental well-being is important. We need to learn to manage
thoughts, keeping our mental environment peaceful and positive.
If we have been born with this gift then we are fortunate.
If not, we need to learn this skill as a priority. A restless,
negative and unfocussed mind is certainly a recipe for misery
and unhappiness.
Managing the mind is a skill we can develop with commitment
and practice. Learning to keep one thought in the mind or
an affirmation, holding it in present moment awareness, is
a very effective practice. We can begin for a few minutes
at first and then extend the time gradually. This builds strength
of mind and concentration. What might appear to be a simple
practice actually has great value, as its positive effect
extends to all areas of our life. We should not just accept
a mental state that is undesirable but work towards transforming
it. A positive and powerful mind is something we can build.
It is a choice that is available to us if we are willing to
work to achieve it.
We are also emotional beings and need to give attention to
this aspect of ourselves. Emotions are important as they can
lift or lower our state of well-being. No one wants to be
sad, lonely or fearful. Love and happiness make the human
experience a joyful and fulfilling one. We need to have uplifting
emotions in our lives and not be hijacked by negative ones.
Managing emotions is a skill that can be learned. The ideal,
of course, would be to be happy in every moment, but in a
challenging world this can be quite difficult. Whenever we
are drawn into a negative emotion we need to make the effort
to transform it quickly. This requires a certain degree of
self-awareness and the ability to change the emotion to a
desirable one. Those who have this ability can help us to
develop it. We need to give attention to developing the skill.
Emotional well-being is our birthright as human beings. Let
us choose to realize it in our daily lives.
The most powerful aspect of our being is the spiritual. It
is the Source of peace, love, wisdom and joy that flows from
within in an endless stream when we tap into it. It opens
up all possibilities to us and makes life an adventure. It
is what makes the mind peaceful and positive, emotions loving
and joyful and what brings intuitive wisdom into our awareness.
It gives us the joy to wake up to each new day and the power
to meet all the challenges of daily living. Those who live
in touch with this Source are the ones who can lead and inspire
us to experience it too. Let us make this an important goal
in our lives as we strive to achieve balance.
Living in balance is giving attention to body, mind and spirit.
Let us strive for this if we want to be truly happy and fulfilled
in the human experience.
Yours in loving service,
Vasudeva
