My
Dear Ones,
Very recently an intellectual visited me whose work is community
based. He is very well poised for a leadership role that will
be perhaps the greatest challenge of his life and career.
He enjoys our conversations whenever we meet and was looking
on this day for guidance on how to approach this testing period
of his life. I, too, greatly enjoy my talks with him. He is
very receptive and strives to put into practice whatever he
learns from our meetings.
In this meeting I wanted to explore his spiritual practice
and how he connects with spiritual being or inner power. So
I questioned him about this and he replied by saying that
he performed good deeds and kept good thoughts in his mind.
I further asked if he prayed. He said that he does not pray
by asking for things. He believes it is up to us to use the
tools that God gave us to acquire what we want. I liked his
idea very much of not praying for handouts but striving to
work for what he wants. I sensed, though, that he was missing
out on a very valuable tool - the power of intention. So we
began to explore how to see prayer in a different way. I spoke
about prayer as a way of expressing our intentions that can
attract support from within us and from the Universe around
to achieve what we want. Prayer was not just begging for a
handout and avoiding working for it.
I then thought I should explore his concept of God. On asking,
he spoke about a Creator of the Universe but did not link
this Creator to the Source of his own being or consciousness.
I thought this was an important concept to bring into his
awareness. So I spoke about moments of inspiration from within,
when knowledge or strength comes just when we need it most
from a powerful inner space. He recognized and accepted this
as an experience in his own life that he cherishes and wants
to experience more. So we spoke about God being an infinite
source of Power within and intentions as a tool to tap into
that Power.
Just to say, for example, every day, “May there be peace,
love and harmony in our world; may I be an instrument of service
to my world, today; may there be balance in my being - body,
mind and spirit,” is a way of expressing intention in
a prayer mode. Keeping such thoughts in our mind strongly
we can tap into our inner Power and also attract support from
the Universe around. By repeating affirmations expressing
our desires in a prayer mode we make them stronger in our
consciousness. This strengthens our conviction which, in turn,
attracts needed support from our intelligent and responsive
Universe.
Intentions carry great power. To create them within us and
to express them in ideas, images, feelings and affirmations
is to use a powerful tool that can influence positive change
within us and our world.
Let us use this power that we have been blessed with in a
conscious way.
Yours in service,
Vasudeva
