My
Dear Ones,
Many times we look back at the past with regret and pain.
In remembering some of our past actions we wish that we could
have acted differently. We carry pain and sorrow from past
experiences and wish somehow that these memories could be
erased forever. If fact, we wish they never happened in the
first place. Or, if could ever be possible, we wish that we
could go back in time and change the way we acted.
But in the human experience this is not to be. The past lives
with us in a powerful storehouse called memory, a place from
where we can recall experiences and relive them again as though
they exist in the present. Is this a curse that we, human
beings, must endure? Or, are we challenged to learn and grow
from the experiences of the past? Can a painful past be a
blessing?
Mistakes and failures are part of the human territory. They
need not possess our minds and destroy optimism and hope.
In ignorance or weakness we may become victims of these. We
need to see it as the nature of life. The great blessing we
have, however, is that we can transform such experiences into
ones of great value just by the way we view them. We need
not label them as mistakes and failures but rather see them
as stepping stones on the journey to success or as providing
a rich learning ground for growth and development in the University
of Life.
If we objectively analyze these experiences we call mistakes
and failures we will see that they provide rich and valuable
information as to where our weakness and ignorance lie. If
we act upon this information we can transform weakness into
strength and ignorance to knowledge. This takes us into a
position of strength and transforms the way we see the past.
It is seen as a blessing now instead of a curse.
We are quick to fall into a slump when we err. Relationships
may suffer as we act inappropriately, performance may drop
as we act without foresight and plan, health may suffer as
we act against better judgement, peace of mind may be disturbed
as we act against deeper feelings and so we are constantly
faced with challenges in daily life. We need to accept that
these may happen to us. This is the nature of life in the
world.
We need to develop the ability to shift the way we view these
experiences and be quick to learn. To sit with guilt, shame,
remorse and regret and let them control our lives is to slowly
destroy our state of well being. We need to look for the lessons.
We need to let these experiences show us our weakness and
ignorance and swiftly act upon this knowledge. We should always
endeavour not to make the same mistake twice. If we do, we
need to keep trying as repeated mistakes can be painful. Though
the Universe is uncompromising in the way It teaches, It is
also a very powerful Friend in that It provides opportunities
and support if we seek and recognize them.
So when you tend to fall into the painful memory of the past
just take a moment to pause and reflect. Ask yourself. “Is
Life trying to teach me something here?” “Can
I see this differently?”
May
you be blessed with the vision of opportunity and hope as
you seek to transform the way you look at the past.
Yours in service,
Vasudeva
