My Dear Ones,
In seeking to touch the Source of our existence and to draw
upon its infinite power, peace and bliss we need to learn
how to enter Its sacred space. Meditation is a powerful
tool to get there. One of the techniques of entering this
space is to focus on the observer within.
In all our activities, if we look carefully, we will see
that there is an observer involved. Sometimes we are so
identified with the activity that we are not able to experience
this observer self as distinct from the activity. In other
words, we become the activity. For example, instead of seeing
that there is the emotion of anger within us and being able
to observe it objectively we become carried away in the
feeling ‘I am angry’. If we are really observing
we will experience the observer as being separate from the
anger and will be able to say ‘There is anger within
me’ rather than ‘I am angry’. Do you see
the difference? This is extremely important to understand
when seeking to experience the full or pure state of the
observer. So there is a part of us that can observe the
process of thinking, feeling and physical sensation whilst
feeling the sense of separateness. Focussing on this observer
can lead us to the Source of our being.
Meditation is a good training ground for developing this
process of becoming the true observer. In meditation one
needs to observe the body, mind and emotions without becoming
caught up in them. Centering ourselves in the observer allows
us the freedom to see the choices we have in each moment
and gives us the space in which to choose wisely in the
circumstances. It allows us to be centered in a space of
great peace, love and wisdom.
In meditation as we begin to focus on the observer, we will
see that sometimes we are centered in our physical being,
being caught up in its sensations, sometimes in our emotional
being caught up in feelings and sometimes in our mental
and intellectual being caught up in thoughts and ideas.
We need to shift to the most powerful centre of our being
that allows us to observe our inner and outer world with
freedom. This is the position of the true observer. This
is where we need to be.
One of the most powerful ways of centering in this space
is to be in the presence of those who live in this state
of awareness. Whatever the role of the person is in life
this extraordinary quality of awareness is expressed in
their words, thoughts, look and touch. Being in their presence
can give us a strong boost if we are ready and receptive.
So let us seek such noble and inspiring company.
If we are able to touch this state of awareness even for
a moment it will give us the inspiration and hope to continue
to seek it. Of course self discipline is extremely important
during the process of seeking. Give attention to the observer
within and seek to centre yourself in the seat of the pure
observer. It is the seat of the ‘I am’ consciousness.
It is the seat of your freedom and joy in the human experience.
It is the seat of connectedness with your Source. Seek to
live and act from this space.
Yours in service,
